Programming One Blinking LED

This week each group received a Arduino kit and basic components. We were shown some of its possibilities but after some research it was apparent that Auduino was only limited to your imagination and programing ability. I have also seen some programming on Mat Lab and the Audrino programming  Language is far more simple to use.

Workshop

In this weeks workshop we began programming  Arduino Kinetic Interaction tut1 and 2.
We deconstructed a pump, mobile phone and alarm. Myself and Jack focused on how the bike pump could be utilized as and input and output. This resulted in a various concepts ideas from water light display to a bobbing shark fin.  Some usefull components found were a mic, a speaker, a camera and various buttons. Yasu advised to stay away from a machanical input and output such as the pump because of its limited capacity and suggested we carry on thinking creatively about the electronic components we had.
By the end of the session we were still expore'ing the possibilities of the components and its possible uses

Introduction To Interaction Design
Designing with an interaction design  approach…

Interaction Design is method of design focused on the interactive experiences in any medium which focus's on the users or participants experience.

..... which is essentially story-creating and telling,
it is at once both an ancient art and a new technology.

Why do we need to know more about interaction design?
As products become increasily more complex
its all about the users Journey Experience
Bad experience leads to low satisfaction

Enhancing the relation between people and technologies.
When technology deliver basic needs, users experience dominates.

Media

Media have always effected the telling of stories and the creation of experiences, but currently new media offer capabilities and opportunities not yet addressed in the history of interaction and performance. How these skills are expressed through interactive technologies and what demands and interests audiences will have for these remains to be understood.
The Modern Day News Dilemma

As news become free on the internet and a more quickly accessible (twitter),
The newspaper business is rapidly forced to adapt to new media (the internet),
But when everyone expects the internet to be completely free  and with no  pop up advertisements
And another cheaper free competitor is a click away,
How is the New Media Meant to earn capital?
What are ways to advertise with out the innocence?
How do the audience automatically receive what they are seeking?

Workshop

In teams we explored various form of input and outputs and behavior.

This involved writing an extensive list of action verbs representing inputs and outputs.
After which we explored and brainstormed various scenarios and contexts which reflected or where aided by the input and output signals or action.

Personal Fitness Motivation

Finding you Mates in the Surf

Medicine Aid

Necklace that is connected to elderly person to remind them to take medication.

As a group we decided to run with the idea of a pill interactive system for the elderly. input- alarm from pill box is sent to necklace.

output-Vibrations and heat are felt from necklace.

-The specific pill compartment needed is opened or unlock by the necklace                Vibrations and head were the chosen output, as some elderly people are blind and                        have hearing difficulties.

Our interaction design lecturer Yasuhiro Santo suggested that there this concept need to be fleshed much further and suggested how aspects of the design in regards to data collection and server attributes could be used. We began to discuss what exactly the data could be used for and how this data may provide information to the stakeholders to further enhance the design.

This design was thought to communicate data to servers to help further investigation for the obvious companies such as pharmaceutical and Government agencies.
